Exhibition ice hockey game in the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena on its opening day, July 4, 1959. The game used one-third of the rink and was played simultaneously with a table tennis match.
Baseball’s World Series comes to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on this day in 1959 as the Los Angeles Dodgers host Game 3 against the Chicago White Sox.
It was the first World Series ever played on the West Coast, and the only to be played in the Coliseum. (The Dodgers moved to Dodger Stadium in 1962.) The Dodgers would go on to win the series in six games.
