An 1899 view of Los Angeles, looking west down Aliso Street (the present-day 101 freeway) from the Maier Brewery.
Construction of the 101 freeway at Broadway in 1950. On the left is the new broadway bridge; on the right a temporary detour. The hill on the top-left is Fort Moore Hill, one of the lost hills of downtown Los Angeles.
Civic leaders preview the 80-foot-wide waterfall at the Fort Moore Pioneer Memorial in downtown Los Angeles on this day in 1954. The memorial marked the site of a U.S. military fort constructed during the Mexican-American war. The waterfall, located off Hill Street between the 101 freeway and Cesar Chavez Avenue, has been dry since a 1977 drought.
